Nanabhai Bhatt and Shirin Mohammad Ali were the parents of Bhatt, who was born into a family of mixed religious backgrounds. Bhatt’s father belonged to the Gujarati Hindu Nagar Brahmin community, while his mother was a Gujarati Muslim. Bhatt had a sibling named Mukesh Bhatt, who is an Indian film producer.
Bhatt completed his schooling at Don Bosco High School in Matunga. Even as a student, he took up summer jobs to earn a living and also worked on creating product advertisements. Through acquaintances, Bhatt was introduced to film director Raj Khosla, who hired him as an assistant director, thus marking the beginning of his career in the film industry.
Personal Life
In 1970, Bhatt tied the knot with Lorraine Bright, who later changed her name to Kiran Bhatt. Their love story served as the inspiration for Bhatt’s film Aashiqui. The couple had two children, a daughter named Pooja who is a filmmaker and actress, and a son named Rahul who aspires to be an actor.
Later, Bhatt had a brief affair with Parveen Babi, a popular actress of the 1970s. However, the affair ended quickly. In 1986, Bhatt got married to Soni Razdan, with whom he had two daughters named Shaheen and Alia. Alia has made a name for herself in the film industry and has acted in over 20 films.
Career
Bhatt began his career while still a student, creating product advertisements to earn money.
