The film draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy, offering a compelling coming-of-age narrative centered around Murad Ahmed (played by Singh), an aspiring street rapper from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai.

Plot

In the backdrop of the Dharavi slums in Mumbai, Murad Ahmed, a final year college student, faces the challenges of his surroundings. His family dynamics become strained when his abusive father, Aftab Shakir Ahmed, brings home a much younger second wife, causing tension within the household. Despite the hardships, Murad finds solace and inspiration in rap music, developing a deep passion for it.

Murad’s girlfriend, Safeena Firdausi, who is training to become a surgeon, supports him but is also overly possessive. They meet secretly due to their families’ disapproval of their relationship.

Alia Bhatt, in a confirmation, announced that Gully Boy would be hitting the screens on February 14, 2019.
