Nandan Nilekani was born on June 2, 1955, in Bangalore, Karnataka. His parents, Durga and Mohan Rao Nilekani, hail from Sirsi, a small town in the Northern Karnataka region. Konkani is Nilekani’s native language, and he is proficient in several other languages including Kannada, English, Marathi, and Hindi.

Education

Nilekani received his education at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and St. Joseph’s High School in Dharwad, Karnataka. He further pursued his studies at PU College Dharwad. Nilekani completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, located in Mumbai.

Nilekani is happily married to Rohini Nilekani (formerly known as Rohini Soman). The couple first met at a quizzing event held at IIT. Career

In 1978, Nilekani embarked on his professional journey at Patni Computer Systems in Mumbai, where he had the opportunity to meet and be interviewed by N.R. Narayana Murthy. Inspired by their shared vision, Nilekani, along with Murthy and five other colleagues from Patni, decided to leave the company in 1981 and establish Infosys.

Before assuming the role of CEO in 2002, Nilekani held various significant positions at Infosys, including managing director, chief operating officer, and president. His expertise and contributions played a crucial role in the company’s growth and success. During his tenure as CEO from March 2002 to April 2007, Infosys experienced remarkable revenue growth.
