Early Life

Amrita Singh, born on February 9, 1958, is the daughter of Rukhsana Sultana and Shivinder Singh Virk, who served as an army officer. Her mother, Rukhsana, gained recognition as a political associate of Sanjay Gandhi during the Indian Emergency in the 1970s. During this time, Sanjay Gandhi initiated a controversial sterilization campaign, and Rukhsana became known for her involvement in leading the campaign specifically in Muslim areas of Old Delhi.

Personal Life

Amrita Singh entered into marriage with actor Saif Ali Khan in January 1991. Before their union, Singh, who was raised in a Sikh family, chose to convert to Islam. By Islamic customs, the couple had an Islamic wedding ceremony. Saif Ali Khan, who is 12 years younger than Amrita Singh, hails from a prestigious lineage. He is the son of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the former Indian test cricket captain and the ninth Nawab of Pataudi, as well as renowned actress Sharmila Tagore.

Career

1983–1993

In 1984, Amrita starred in “Sunny,” further cementing her position in the industry. The following year, she appeared in “Mard,” which emerged as the biggest hit of 1985.
