Career
Wrestling
Babita made her debut in wrestling in 2009 at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship, where she clinched the Gold medal in the women’s freestyle 51 kg category. Her breakthrough moment came at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, where she earned a Silver medal and garnered widespread recognition. In 2012, Babita joined her sister Geeta Phogat as the second Indian female wrestler to win a medal (Bronze) at the World Championship.
Babita continued her success by winning a Gold medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She then qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the fourth female wrestler from India to do so, but unfortunately lost in the first round. In 2019, Babita participated in the popular dance reality show “Nach Baliye 9” along with her boyfriend Vivek Suhag.
Politics
Having previously supported the Indian National Lok Dal, Babita and her father Mahavir Phogat joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 12 August 2019. In the same year, Babita ran as a candidate for the Dadri Constituency in the Haryana Assembly Elections but unfortunately was unsuccessful in securing a victory.

Babita took part in the 2019 season of the popular dance reality show Nach Baliye with her then-boyfriend, Vivek Suhag. The couple tied the knot in November of the same year.
