Arora was born in Mumbai and is of Punjabi descent. Before becoming a chef, she pursued a career as a journalist. She moved to France in 2008 She graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, Paris in 2010, after having studied at Le Cordon Bleu.

Before opening Gaa in Bangkok, she worked with Rene Redzepi from Noma in Copenhagen and Gordon Ramsay. Gaa, a restaurant with three stories, celebrates Indian traditional techniques and a modern tasting menu.

Education

After her graduation from secondary school, Garima joined the University of Mumbai in 2005. It is a public, state-owned, collegiate university. In 2008, she graduated with a BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media), and a degree in journalism.

Career

After completing her education, Garima Arora worked as a chef in Copenhagen, under Rene Redzepi, Gordon Ramsay, and Chef Gaggan Anand. Gaa, her restaurant in Bangkok, was opened by Garima Arora in April 2017. Gaa, a three-story restaurant, offers a modern tasting menu that uses traditional Indian cooking techniques.

Arora and her restaurant were awarded a Michelin star in November 2018. This made Arora the first Indian woman to receive this title. Restaurant Gaa debuted at No. 16 on Asia’s 50 Most Popular Restaurants List in March 2019, winning the award of Highest New Entry.
