Birth, Family, Early Life
Kapil Dev was born on the 6th of January 1959 and was the son of Ram Lal Nikhanj (father) and Raj Kumari Ram Lal Nikhanj (mother) in Chandigarh, India. He was the son of a lumber merchant and his mom was a domestic worker. Kapil Dev was raised in Pakpattan, Pakistan (the town of Sufi Saint Baba Farid) while his father was from Dipalpur, Pakistan. Following the partition of the country, the family moved to Chandigarh.
Education
He studied at D.A.V. School, and then in 1971 was a member of Desh Prem Azad (Indian cricketer and coach of Cricket).
Personal Life
In the year 1980, Kapil Dev married Romi Bhatia in 1980. On the 16th of January 1996, the couple had a child with Amiya Dev.
Cricket Career
He played his professional debut in cricket in the match between Haryana in a match against Punjab on November 25, 1975. Haryana won the match, and Kapil Dev ended his season taking 121 wickets over 30 games.
In 1976-77 seasons He was a player in the 1976-1977 season against Jammu and Kashmir. Haryana was able to make it to the quarter-finals but fell to Bombay in the quarterfinals.
In the 1977-78 seasons, Dev played against the services and took 23 wickets over the course of four matches. Dev was picked for matches in the Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Wills Trophy matches.
In the 1978-79 seasons, Kapil Dev was the star of his performance in the Irani Trophy match where he scored 62 runs on the #8 in the order. The performance he showed during the semi-finals of the Duleep Trophy was widely appreciated. He was selected for the North Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy and the Wills Trophy and played his first Test match of the series against Pakistan.
