Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Limited. She gave the ‘Othmer Gold Medal by the U.S.-based Chemical Heritage Foundation, for her outstanding contribution to the advancement of chemistry and science in 2014. Kiran began her career with Carlton in Carlton and United Breweries, Melbourne, where she was an apprentice Brewer. Kiran Mazumdar completed her training at Carlton in Carlton and United Breweries. She also worked for Barrett Brothers and Burston, Australia as a maltster in training.
After returning to India and joining Jupiter Breweries in Calcutta as an expert in technical consulting, after gaining knowledge there, she technical manager at Standard Maltings Corporation situated in Baroda. She decided to pursue a professional career in Bangalore or Delhi told “a man’s profession” and that women could not work as master brewers within India.
