On June 30th the 30th of June, 2017 Messi got married to Antonella Roccuzzo who was his longtime girlfriend, and cousin of his colleague and soccer star Lucas Scaglia. Messi, as well as Roccuzzo, share three sons: Thiago, born in November 2012, Mateo, born in September 2015, and Ciro born in March 2018.

Background

Messi began his career with Argentina team Newell’s Old Boys at the age of eight. He was a member of the famous ‘Machine from 1987’ team from Newell’s. He was later diagnosed with a deficiency of growth hormone when he was 10 years old. The club then approached him for a scouting Spanish soccer club FC Barcelona and after completing his treatment- thanks to Barcelona at the age of 14 Messi began to play for the club’s youth squads.

Messi’s debut appearance for his club Albiceleste (White as well as Sky Blue) was against Hungry on the 17th of August 2005. He was dismissed within two minutes after his debut for elbowing an opponent. He was a part of in 2006’s World Cup in Germany but the coach Jose Pekerman was reluctant to give him a free hand and he only played in one game.

Barcelona did not wish for Messi to participate in the Olympic Games in Beijing but they reached an agreement and Messi was able to help his nation win the gold medal.
