Kumari Mayawati is a prominent Indian politician who leads the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). With an impressive political career, she has held the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on four occasions. Early Life

Born in 1956 in Delhi, Mayawati, also known as Chandawati Devi, was the daughter of Ram Rati and Prabhu Das. Her father, Prabhu Das, worked as a clerk in the Department of Telecommunications, and she had six brothers. Mayawati’s educational journey led her to complete her Bachelor’s degree in arts at Kalindi College. Subsequently, she pursued further studies, obtaining both an LLB and a B.Ed. from Delhi University.

Education

She pursued her education diligently, obtaining a B.A. degree from Kalindi Women’s College, affiliated with Delhi University, in 1975. Subsequently, in 1976, she earned a B.Ed. from VMLG College in Ghaziabad. Her commitment to education continued as she pursued an LL.B. degree from Delhi University, successfully completing it in 1983.

Career

She dedicated herself to her teaching career until 1984. However, her life took a dramatic turn that year when she was deeply influenced by the work and initiatives of Kanshi Ram. In 1984, when Kanshi Ram established the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati decided to make a significant career change and became a full-time member of the party, leaving her teaching job behind. In the same year, she entered the political arena by contesting her first election campaign from the Kairana Lok Sabha seat in the Muzaffarnagar district. She continued to run for Lok Sabha seats in 1985 and 1987. Eventually, in 1989, the BSP achieved significant success by winning 13 seats in the Lok Sabha.

Today, Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, addressed a press conference following her party’s defeat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.
