Puri Jagannadh (born 28 September 1966) is an Indian film screenwriter, director, and producer who works mostly within the Telugu film industry. His directorial debut came with the hugely popular Telugu film Badri with Pawan Kalyan Renu Desai as well as Ameesha Patel.

In 2006 He produced the Telugu film Pokiri which premiered at the seventh IIFA Film Festival held in Dubai. It was made into a variety of Indian languages and gained Puri-wide Indian recognition. He was the first to make his Bollywood debut in 2004 by directing the feature film Shart: The Challenge. In 2011 Puri produced his first Hindi movie Bbuddah.

Hoga Terra Baap with Amitabh was later preserved by the Oscar library. He also makes films through his co-owned production company, Puri Jagannadh Touring Talkies, Vaishno Academy and Puri Connect together with actress Charmme Kaur.

Family

Jagannath was born to parents whose family name was Petla. It is reported to be true that the father of his son, Simhachalam was killed after a long battle against cancer at 69. The most notable thing is that Puri comes from the native Telugu Hindu Koppula Velama family from Pithapuram, East Godavari.

Early Life

Puri Jagannadh was born September 28, 1966, in Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh. His hometown was Bapiraju Kothapalli village of Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh. He attended St. Theresa High School, Pedda Boddapalli, and graduated from A. M. A. L. College, Anakapalle in 1986. His older sister, Petla Shira is the MLA of Narsipatnam, YSR Congress Party, and his second older sister Sairam Shankar works as an actor. He married Lavanya in the year 1996.

Career

Puri began his film direction profession as an assistant for Ram Gopal Varma for several Telugu films, mostly of the action genre. His Telugu film directorial debut, Badri starred Pawan Kalyan. He is a close partner with actor Ravi Teja who starred in his films such as Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, and Idiot.

Alongside Telugu films, In addition, he has worked within his native Kannada film industry and introduced Puneeth Rajkumar with the film Appu. In 2011, he collaborated alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the film Bbuddah. Hoga Terra Baap. In 2020, Jagannadh directed the action film Liger which is currently made with Dharma Productions and Charmme Kaur.
