Ronit Bose Roy, born on October 11, 1965, is a renowned Indian actor who has primarily worked in Hindi television and films as well as Tamil and Telugu cinema. Throughout his career, Roy has been recognized with multiple honors, including a Filmfare Award, two Screen Awards, five ITA Awards, and six Indian Telly Awards.
Family
Ronit Roy was born in Nagpur to a Bengali family. His father, Brotin Bose Roy, was a businessman, and his mother, Dolly Roy, was a homemaker. Ronit has a younger brother named Rohit Roy, who is also a TV actor. Ronit grew up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he received his education.
Early Life
Born on October 11, 1965, in Nagpur, Ronit Roy comes from a Bengali family. He is the eldest son of Brotin Bose Roy, a businessman, and Dolly Roy. Ronit’s younger brother, Rohit Roy, is also a TV actor. During his childhood, Ronit lived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he attended Ankur School for his primary education.
Education
After completing his elementary education at Ankur School in Ahmedabad, Roy went on to pursue a career in hotel management. Upon finishing his studies, he traveled to Mumbai and stayed at the residence of the director Subhash Ghai.
Despite Roy’s eagerness to enter the film industry, Subhash Ghai persuaded him not to pursue it due to the challenges involved. Instead, Roy became a management trainee at the Sea Rock Hotel in Mumbai, where he worked in various roles such as cleaning, dishwashing, serving tables, and bartending.
Personal Life
Roy tied the knot with Joanna and together they have a daughter named One. Later on December 25, 2003, he got married to actress and model Neelam Singh. The couple has two children together: a daughter named Aador (born in May 2005) and a son named Agastya (born in October 2007).
Career
Film Career
Roy ventured into the Hindi film industry with his debut film Jaan Tere Naam in 1992, which proved to be a commercial success. He also starred alongside Aditya Pancholi and Kishori Shahane in Bomb Blast (1993), which also turned out to be a commercial hit.
TV Career
After receiving no exciting film offers, Roy was offered a role in the television serial Kammal by Balaji Telefilms, which he accepted. However, before Kammal commenced, Balaji Telefilms also offered him the part of Rishabh Bajaj, a middle-aged business tycoon in Kasautii Zindagii Kay.
This landed him another role in Balaji Telefilms’ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as Mihir Virani, taking over from Amar Upadhyay and Inder Kumar.
