He is part of the Surinder Kapoor family. Kapoor is the founder of Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Private Limited. He is also the director of Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Private Limited. Tevar was the first film produced by their production firm.
Family
Sanjay Kapoor was born to Nirmal Kapoor and Surinder Kapoor (a movie producer). Reena Marwah and Boney Kapoor are his three older siblings. His nieces and nephews are film producer Rhea Kapoor, actors Sonam Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor as well as Harshvardhan and Mohit Marwah. He is also distantly related to the Raj Kapoor family, as Prithviraj Kapoor is his father’s cousin. His son is Jahaan Kapoor. His daughter is Shanaya Kapoor.
Early Life
Kapoor was the son of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor. Reena Marwah, Anil Kapoor, and Boney Kapoor are his older siblings. His nephews and nieces are actors Sonam Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor as well as Janhvi Kapoor and Janhvi Marwah, Harshvardhan, and Mohit Kapoor. Film producer Rhea Kapoor is also his nephew. His distant relatives include the Kapoor family of Prithviraj Kapoor, as Prithviraj Kapoor was his cousin.

Personal Life
In 1997, he married Maheep Sandhu, his long-time girlfriend, and ex-actress. They have two children, Shanaya Kapoor, and Jahaan Kapoor. Shanaya Kapoor, his daughter, is set to make her acting debut with Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan.
Career
Kapoor, who was paired with Tabu in Prem, made his Hindi cinema debut in 1995. Despite both actors giving decent performances, the movie was delayed many years because it had been in production since 1989. It was a disaster at the box office upon its release. Kapoor’s next film was Raja (1995), opposite Madhuri Dixit, which was a box-office success.
As a lead actor, he appeared in many films including Sirf Tum (1999), Mohabbat (1997), and Auzaar (1997). He was not a successful lead actor, with the exception of the moderately popular Chhupa Rustam (2001), which was a box-office failure. He was the psychotic husband of Esha Delol, and he played the role of a villain in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe. Critics praised his performance.

Television and Web Career
In 2003, he made his television debut as a guest star opposite Karisma Kapoor in Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny. He was cast as Vikram Bhatt in the television serial Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara, opposite Smriti Kakra.
This series is about a man who marries a younger woman and how they make their marriage work. He was even cast as Chiraag Arora in ALTBalaji’s web series Soggy Hoga Tera Baap. Sanjay Kapoor was also cast as Sanjay Thakur in “Fashion Street”, a TV movie. He was Rajeev Gujral in The Gone Game in 2020.
