His father is named Narendra Thakur, and his mother goes by the name of Hansa Thakur. In addition to his parents, Shardul also has an elder sister as part of his family.

He embarked on his first-class cricket journey on November 9, 2012, representing the Mumbai cricket team in a Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan. His introduction to this prestigious format marked the beginning of a promising career in the sport.
