American business executive Tim Cook succeeded Steve Jobs in 2011 as chief executive officer (CEO), of Apple Inc. Before assuming the title of CEO, he was the acting CEO of the company during Jobs’ lengthy medical leave.
Tim Cook was instrumental in the company’s success since 1998 when he joined Apple as the senior vice president (SVP) for Worldwide Operations. Cook joined Apple in 1998 during a difficult period. His role in the company’s revival has been enormous.

Tim Cook’s story begins when he was born on November 1, 1960, in Robertsdale, Alabama. He graduated second in his class at Robertsdale High School in 1978. He was later enrolled at Auburn University, Alabama. Cook received a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in Alabama in 1982. Tim Cook completed his education when he was awarded an MBA at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Cook stated that he was gay in an opinion piece that he wrote for Bloomberg Businessweek in October 2014. Career
Cook began his career in computer technology right out of graduate school. Cook was hired by IBM and quickly rose up the ranks to become North American fulfillment director. He manages manufacturing and distribution for IBM’s Personal Computer Company in North America and Latin America.
After a twelve-year career at IBM Cook was appointed chief operating officer of Intelligent Electronics’ Reseller Division in 1994. Cook joined Compaq Computer Corporation in 1994 as vice president of corporate material, responsible for managing and procuring product inventory. Cook was fired after six months at Compaq.

Recognitions & Awards
In 2011, he was named one of the ‘World’s Most Powerful Persons’ by Forbes magazine. Cook was inducted into Alabama’s Academy of Honor in 2015. This is the highest honor that Alabama gives its citizens. In 2015, Cook was awarded an honorary doctorate by George Washington University. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by the University of Glasgow in 2017.
