Vasundhara Raje, original name in full Vasundhara Raje Scindia, (born March 8, 1953, Bombay [now Mumbai], India), Indian politician and government official. She finished her schooling at the Presentation Convent, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. She graduated with honors in political science and economics from Sophia College, University of Mumbai. She got married into the Royal Family of Dholpur, in eastern Rajasthan.

She was born on March 8, 1953 in Mumbai. She is the daughter of the last reigning maharaja of Gwalior of pre-Independence, Jivaji Rao Scindia, and Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia, who was a political leader in post-Independence India.

Early Life

She was born on 8 March 1953 (age 69 years, as of 2022) in Bombay, Bombay State (Now Mumbai, Maharashtra) India. She is the daughter of the late Jivajirao Scindia, (Maharaja of Gwalior). She completed her primary education at Presentation Convent, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. For her higher education, she enrolled at Sophia College at Mumbai University and graduated with Economics and Political Science.

Family

Sindhia was born in the royal family and former rulers of Gwalior now in Madhya Pradesh state. She father was Jivajirao Scindia. Vasundhara Raje’s mother Vijayaraje Scindia, was a senior leader in both the Bharatiya and Jana Sangh.

Raje was inspired by her mother to enter into Politics. Her elder brother, Madhavrao Scindia, was also a politician. Raje completed a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Sophia College for Women affiliated with the University of Mumbai.

Husband

She married Maharaj Rana Hemant Singh, of the royal JatDholpur family, on 17 November 1972, but the couple separated a year later. Her son Dushyant Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha from her former constituency, Jhalawar.

Her siblings are YashodharaRajeScindia, Industries Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the late MadhavraoScindia, the late Padmavati Raje ‘Akkasaheb’ Burman (1942–64), who wed Kirit Deb Burman, last ruling Maharaja of Tripura, and Usha Raje Rana (b. 1943) who married into the Rana family of Nepal.
