Vignesh Shivan approached Dharan to compose music for his short film and later showed it to the producers at Gemini Film Circuit. Impressed with his work, they agreed to collaborate with him to make it into a feature film. Eventually, Silambarasan also came on board, and together they worked on the project, which was titled “Podaa Podi.” The movie was released in 2012.

In June 2008, Shanaya Telefilms, the co-producers of the movie, unveiled a set of posters to promote the film. Meanwhile, Silambarasan and Vignesh traveled to Canada to search for suitable filming locations and negotiate an agreement with Mayor Ron Stevens to shoot in Orillia and Toronto.

After being in production for nearly four years, the movie was released in October 2012 to a mixed response.
