Introduction

Vijayaraj Azhagarswami was born on 25th August 1952 in Tirumangalam, Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. He is better known by his screen name Vijaykanth. Vijayakanth is an Indian Actor and Politician. He has worked in Tamil cinema and serves as a statesman in Tamil Nadu. Vijayakanth founded a front called Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and was a former MLA from the Rishivandiyam constituency.

He then played a villain role in Om Shakti (1982) but after which he has never portrayed antagonist characters in his career. His next film, Sattam Oru Iruttarai (1981), directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar was successful and remade in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.

He acted in various films such as Vaidhegi Kaathirunthaal (1984).  He acted in Amman Kovil Kizhakale (1986), which earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil.

Vijayakanth was born as Vijayaraj Azhagar Swami Naidu on August 25, 1952, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. His parents are K. N. Alagarswami Naidu and Aandal Azhagarswami who hailed from the most prominent Balija Naidu family of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

He married Premalatha on January 31, 1990, and has two sons named Vijay Prabhakar and Shanmuga Pandian. Upon entering the film industry to pursue an acting career, he changed his name to “Vijayakanth”, dropping.

Family

He was born to K. N. Alagarswami and Aandal Alagarswami. On 31-01-1990, he married Premalatha Alagarswami. He has two sons named Shanmuga Pandian, a Tamil film actor, and Vijay Prabhakar Alagarswami. An Indian Politician L. K. Sudhish is his nephew.
