Yuvraj Singh, who was born on 12 December 1981, is an ex-Indian international cricketer. He played in all formats. All-rounder, he batted left-handed in the middle order and bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He is the joint third-highest ODI cricket player in India with Sourav Ganguly, who has won seven Player of the Series awards. Yograj Singh, a former Indian fast bowler, is his father.

Singh was the son of Yograj Singh (a former India cricketer) and Shabnam Singh. Yuvraj was a keen roller skater and tennis player during his childhood. He was also the National Under-14 Roller Skating Champion. His father told him to stop skating and focus on cricket.

Yuvraj started his career in Punjab Under-16s when he was 13 years old. He played 11 months in the November 1995-96 match against Jammu & Kashmir-16s. Yuvraj was elevated to Punjab Under-19s in 1996-97 and scored 137 against Himachal Pradesh under-19s.
Domestic Career
He made his debut as a Punjabi batsman against Orissa during the 1997-98 Ranji season. In his first innings, he was run out for ducks. Yuvi scored 358 runs against Punjab in the final of the U-19 Coach Behar Trophy. The entire Bihar team scored 357.
T20 Franchise Cricket
In the first two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Yuvraj was the iconic player and captain of Kings XI Punjab. The third season saw the end of icon player status and Kumar Sangakkara was elected captain. The round-robin phase saw the Kings XI Punjab finish second to the Chennai Super Kings, who lost the semi-finals.
International Breakthrough
He was selected for the Indian squad in the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy after his outstanding performances with the Under-19 team. In the pre-quarterfinal, he made his international debut against Kenya. He was out of the game after bowling four overs and conceding 16 runs.
Yuvraj was awarded the Man of the Match award in the quarterfinal match against Australia for his innings of 85 runs out of 80 balls against a pace attack that included Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee. This helped India win by 20 runs.
