Sidney, Alan On February 21st, 1946, Alan Rickman was born in the Acton district of London. He watched his father die of cancer when he was eight years old and was raised by working-class parents and three siblings amid the rubble of World War II.

Education

Alan Rickman received his early education at West Acton First School and Derwentwater Primary School, both located in Acton. Later, he attended Latymer Upper School in London, where he became interested in drama. He was able to pursue his passion for acting thanks to the Direct Grant system. After completing his secondary education, Rickman enrolled at Chelsea College of Art and Design, where he studied from 1965 to 1968. He continued his education at the Royal College of Art, where he completed his studies in 1970.

Personal Life

Alan Rickman met Rima Horton when he was 19 years old and they remained together until his passing. They shared a home from 1977 but only got married secretly in 2012 in New York City. The couple did not have any children.

Career

Alan Rickman began his acting career by playing the role of Tybalt in a BBC series adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. He later portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the 1976 theatrical production of Sherlock Holmes and appeared in The Devil is an Ass as Wittipol from 1976 to 1977.

In 1978, Rickman played Tybalt again in a television production of Romeo and Juliet. Additionally, he acted in the films Judas Kiss as Detective David Friedman and Dark Harbor as David Weinberg that year. He also appeared in theatrical productions of Love’s Labour’s Lost as Boyet, Captain Swing as Farquarson, and The Tempest as Ferdinand in the same year.
