Anna Mani was born on 23 August 1918 in Peermade, Kerala, to a Syrian Christian family. An Indian meteorologist and physicist she made contributions to science and technology as well as meteorology. Her last job was as the Director General’s Deputy for the Indian Meteorological Department, followed by a trip as an instructor at the Raman Research Institute. Anna Mani was a researcher on the effects of solar radiation, ozone as well as wind energy.

She has published several research papers on meteorological instrumentation. Anna Mani did not get married. She was a lover of trekking and bird watching and was an avid lover of nature. She was a part of several scholarly academies such as the Indian National Science Academy, the American Meteorological Society, and the International Solar Energy Society.

Anna Modayil Mani was born on the 23rd of August 1918 in Peermade, Kerala to an old Syrian Christian family. The father of the family was an engineer and an atheist. She was the eighth child in her beloved family.

Throughout her growing years, she was an insatiable peruser. She was fascinated by the exercises performed by Gandhi during the Vaikom Satyagraha. In awe of their patriotism, she began to wear the khadi clothes she had worn for years.

Family

The Anna Mani family was a classic example of an upper-middle-class professional family. The males in the family were encouraged to seek higher-paying jobs early while the women of the family were trained to marry.

Education

When she received her degree from Pachai College, she joined the research team of Professor CV Raman. She was able to study the optical properties of rubies and diamonds. Although she had written five research papers and submitted her dissertation to earn his Ph.D. However, she did not receive the award because she didn’t have a master’s in Physics.

Career

Following her departure from Pachai college, the student continued to work under Prof. C V Raman, studying optic properties in the ruby and jewel. She wrote five papers for her examination and then presented the results of her Ph.D. thesis, however, she was not awarded an honorary Ph.D. degree since she did not have a degree in the physical sciences.
