Aranmanai 3 (transl. “Mansion 3”) is a Tamil-language comedy horror film released in 2021. The film is written and directed by Sundar C. It features a star-studded ensemble cast including Sundar C, Arya, Raashii Khanna, and Andrea Jeremiah.  Notably, Sakshi Agarwal and Vivek have also appeared in the film, with Vivek’s role marking his first posthumous release.

Plot

The film opens with a young Jyothi experiencing a terrifying encounter with a spirit in her own home, leaving her deeply frightened. Unfortunately, her father, Zamindar Rajasekhar, holds a deep grudge against her as he blames her for her mother’s death during childbirth. Believing that Jyothi is fabricating stories for attention, he angrily sends her away to a boarding school.

Years later, a court ruling compels Rajasekhar to unlock a secret room within the village temple. Filled with both fear and anger towards the ruling, Rajasekhar is astonished to find nothing inside the room. Following this unsettling event, Rajasekhar’s loyal manservant and driver, Durai, tragically takes his own life.

Development

Following the release of Action (2019), reports emerged in January 2020 suggesting that director Sundar C. was planning to create the third installment of the Aranmanai film series, following the success of the first two films, Aranmanai (2014) and Aranmanai 2 (2016). Additionally, during the same month, it was reported that Sun Pictures had been selected to produce the film.

Music

The film’s soundtrack was composed by C. Sathya, who was collaborating for second time with Sundar C. after Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru (2013). Audio rights of the film were acquired by Saregama.  The first single “Ratapatata”, sung by Arivu, was released on August 30, 2021.

Marketing

On 22nd April 2021, the first look and motion poster of the film were unveiled. However, two months later, exclusive stills from the movie were leaked online and quickly gained widespread attention. The official trailer of the film was then released on 30th September, receiving an overwhelming response. Within just one day.

Release

Theatrical

Originally, the film was intended to have a theatrical release in the summer of 2021. However, due to the impact of the second wave of COVID-19, both the release and post-production of the film were delayed. It was subsequently rescheduled for a September 2021 release, but later pushed further to October.
