Train Accident
In April of the year 2011, Arunima Sinha’s life took a harrowing turn while she was traveling aboard the Padmavati Express from Lucknow to Delhi. During this fateful journey, she found herself confronted by a group of ruthless robbers. These criminals, driven by their intentions to steal her bag and gold chain for their own gain, resorted to a shocking act of violence.The horrific incident went unnoticed until the morning when villagers discovered her and rushed her to a nearby hospital. It was there that her leg was amputated below the knee in a desperate bid to save her life. In the wake of this traumatic event, the Indian Sports Ministry offered Arunima a compensation of ₹25,000 (US$310). She received the best available medical treatment to aid in her recovery. Alongside this, she was also extended a job recommendation within the Indian Railways.
