However, it was during this journey that her life took an unexpected and life-altering turn. Following the accident, Arunima received crucial medical care and attention at the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where she remained for nearly four months. Train Accident

In April of the year 2011, Arunima Sinha’s life took a harrowing turn while she was traveling aboard the Padmavati Express from Lucknow to Delhi. During this fateful journey, she found herself confronted by a group of ruthless robbers. These criminals, driven by their intentions to steal her bag and gold chain for their own gain, resorted to a shocking act of violence.The horrific incident went unnoticed until the morning when villagers discovered her and rushed her to a nearby hospital. It was there that her leg was amputated below the knee in a desperate bid to save her life. In the wake of this traumatic event, the Indian Sports Ministry offered Arunima a compensation of ₹25,000 (US$310). She received the best available medical treatment to aid in her recovery. Alongside this, she was also extended a job recommendation within the Indian Railways.
