Reception

Bhuvanesh Chandar, in his review for The Hindu, pointed out that the movie “August 16, 1947” fails to redeem itself from various issues, including the fact that the freedom fight portrayed in the story is solely the result of one man’s inspiring speech, and the actions taken by the characters are not clever enough.

Meanwhile, Saibal Chatterjee, in his review for NDTV, gave the film a rating of 1 out of 5 stars, stating that it seemed to have been written and staged without much thought, with a convoluted storyline, inconsistent characterizations, and an overall overly dramatic tone.
