The Squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi (born 27 October 1993) is an Indian pilot from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh. She was proclaimed the first female combat pilot, along with two of her co-pilots, Mohana Singh Jitarwal, and Bhawana Kanth. The three were inducted into the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. They were officially appointed by the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on June 18, 2016, to support the nation.

Avani Chaturvedi belongs to a Brahmin family from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India. Their father’s name is Dinkar Chaturvedi; he is an engineer who is superintending within the Water Resource Department of the Madhya Pradesh government. Her mother is a homemaker.
She has an older brother of whom she works as an Indian Army officer and he inspired her to join the Indian Air Force. In November she married Vineeet Chikara. a lieutenant in the Indian Air Force.

She graduated in Deolond a town of a few hundred inhabitants located in the Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh. She completed her Bachelor in Technology in Technology from Banasthali University, Rajasthan in 2014, she joined the college’s fly club which enticed her to fly.
Avani Chaturvedi was able to pass the AFCAT and was further advised by AFSB. Chaturvedi enjoys playing table tennis, and chess as well as sketching and painting. The elder brother of Avani, who’s an officer with the Indian Army, inspired her to join the Indian Air Force. Avani also has some flying experience with the flying club at her school Banasthali University.

Avni Chaturvedi was married to Air Lieutenant Vineeet Chikara in November 2019.
Career
She was chosen to train in the Air Force Academy and completed the course in the year she turned 25. Following more education, Chaturvedi became a fighter pilot in June 2016. in the year 2018. Chaturvedi was the very first Indian woman pilot to fly a unison flight in the MiG-21.
In the year 2018, Avani received the title of Flight Lieutenant. In 2023 Avani became the 1st female fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force to take part in a wargame played in the air overseas, which she participated in during the war in Japan. Chaturvedi is stationed in Indian Air Force No. 23 Squadron Panthers in Suratgarh, Rajasthan.
Awards and Recognition
She was awarded the doctorate awarded by Banasthali Vidyapeeth. On March 9, 2020, Chaturvedi got awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar by President Ram Nath Kovind.
