Family
Bajrang Punia hails from a family of wrestlers, with his father, Balvan Singh Punia, being a wrestler himself. His mother’s name is Om Pyari Punia, and he is the youngest of three children, with an elder brother named Harendra Punia.
Due to financial constraints, Punia’s father could not afford to enroll him in traditional sports. Hence, he encouraged his son to pursue free sports like wrestling and Kabaddi. At the age of 14, Punia started taking mud wrestling lessons at a local school. It was there that he met Yogeshwar Dutt, an Olympic medalist, who became his mentor and sparring partner.
Early Life
Bajrang Punia was born on February 26, 1994, in Khudan, Jhajjar, Haryana, India. His father encouraged him to pursue wrestling at the age of seven. Punia grew up in a rural area where his family could not afford traditional sports. As a result, he participated in free sports like wrestling and Kabaddi.
Punia’s father was also a wrestler, and at a young age, Punia was enrolled in a local mud wrestling school. Wrestling quickly became his passion, and he started skipping school to attend wrestling practice. In 2008, Punia joined the Chattarsal Stadium to further his training, where he was coached by Ramphal Mann.

Career
In 2013, Bajrang secured the Bronze medal for his country in the Asian Wrestling Championship, marking his first victory in an international tournament. Following this achievement, he continued to dominate various wrestling championships, such as the Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games, as well as numerous national and international tournaments, winning multiple medals along the way.
Achievements
Bajrang Punia secured his first international medal, a Bronze, at the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championships that took place in Delhi. Although he lost to North Korea’s Hwang Ryong-hak in the semi-finals, he managed to claim the Bronze medal. Later that year, at the 2013 World Wrestling Championships, Punia won another Bronze medal by defeating Enkhsaikhany Nyam-Ochir in the Bronze medal match.

As of 2018, Bajrang Punia’s estimated net worth was around Rs. 24 lakh Indian Rupees (approximately). Currently, he is employed as a Ticket Checker in the Indian Railways. Despite this, his parents wish for him to become a police officer in the Haryana Police.
