Born on 7 June 1974 in London, England, Bear Grylls’ full name is Edward Michael Grylls. He is the son of Sir Michael Grylls and Lady Sarah ‘Sally’ Grylls and has an older sister named Lara Fawcett, who gave him his nickname ‘Bear’ when he was just a week old.

He spent his early childhood in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland, but when he was four years old, his family relocated to the village of Bembridge on the easternmost part of the Isle of Wight. As a child, he received training in climbing and sailing from his father. At the age of eight, Grylls became a Cub Scout.

Education

Bear Grylls received his education at Eaton House, Ludgrove School, and Eton College, where he played a key role in establishing its first mountaineering club.
