Plot

In 2009, we are introduced to Dharani, a young delinquent who makes a living by stealing coal. He resides with his grandmother in Veerlapally, a village where the women are suffering due to the influence of alcohol. Dharani’s closest companions are Siddham “Suri” Suryam and Vennela.

From childhood, Dharani has harbored feelings of love for Vennela. However, he discovers that Vennela and Suri are in love with each other. In a selfless act, Dharani sacrifices his own love and resolves to bring Suri and Vennela together. Their relationship faces opposition from Vennela’s mother, Ramanamma, who disapproves of Suri’s involvement in coal theft.

Development

In October 2021, Nani announced his next project titled Dasara, directed by debutant Srikanth Odela, who had previously worked as an assistant to Sukumar in films like Nannaku Prematho and Rangasthalam. The film is being produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the banner of Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas. The formal launch of the film took place in February 2022.

Casting

Keerthy Suresh was chosen to play the female lead opposite Nani in Dasara, marking their second collaboration following their previous film Nenu Local. Additionally, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Samuthirakani, Prakash Raj, Rajendra Prasad, Roshan Mathew, Sai Kumar, and Zarina Wahab, who have been signed on to portray significant roles in the movie.

Filming

Principal photography for Dasara began in March 2022. In April of the same year, the production team shifted their filming location to Hyderabad to shoot a song sequence. The third schedule of the film commenced in July 2022. The shooting process concluded on January 13, 2023, and the film entered the post-production phase in preparation for its release on March 30, 2023.

Music

Santhosh Narayanan has composed the film score and soundtrack album for Dasara. The music rights for the film were acquired by Saregama. The first single from the album, titled “Dhoom Dhaam Dhosthaan,” was released on October 3, 2022.

Dasara was theatrically released on 30 March 2023. It was released in Telugu and dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages. The teaser of the film was released on 30 January 2023.
