 Plot

Kuldeep, also known as “Kukoo” Saini and Nainaa Sharma tied the knot, having cherished their love since their school days. Eventually, the couple decided to move to Toronto, Canada, where Nainaa pursued a corporate job while Kukoo found employment as a bouncer in a nightclub. However, as time passed, their marital bliss started to fade, burdened by long periods of silence, unfinished conversations, and growing resentment.

Complicating matters, Nainaa receives a tempting offer to become the vice president of HR in New York City, while Kukoo becomes increasingly frustrated with his job as a bouncer. On their wedding anniversary, the couple finally opens up about the strain in their marriage, acknowledging their unhappiness. They make the difficult decision to pursue a divorce but decide to wait until Kukoo’s sister, Ginny, is married before moving forward with the separation.

Lawsuit

On 21st June 2022, Vishal Singh, a writer hailing from Ranchi, India, accused Karan Johar, alleging that the plot of Jugjugg Jeeyo was plagiarized from his story titled Punny Rani. Singh asserted that there were similarities between the two narratives and sought compensation of Rs. 1.5 crores for the alleged infringement. The matter was taken up by a local court, and as of 23rd June 2022, it remained under the court’s jurisdiction, awaiting further proceedings and resolution.

Box office

Jugjugg Jeeyo made an impressive start at the domestic box office, earning ₹9.28 crores on its opening day. The film continued to attract audiences, collecting ₹10.55 crore on the second day. On the third day, the film’s earnings rose further, reaching ₹12.10 crore. As a result, the film’s total domestic opening weekend box office collection amounted to an impressive ₹28.93 crore.
