Sultana Nooran (born June 14, 1992) and Jyoti Nooran (born February 24, 1994) make up the Nooran Sisters, a duo specializing in devotional Sufi singing hailing from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. Growing up in a family of Sufi musicians, they are well-versed in Sham Chaurasia gharana classical music which they incorporate into their performances.
In 2012, the Nooran Sisters gained public recognition after their song “Tung Tung” was featured on MTV India’s Sound Trippin. The track was later adapted into a soundtrack for the 2015 Bollywood film Singh is Bling.

Early Life
From a young age, the Nooran Sisters received training from their father, Ustad Gulshan Mir (or Meer), who is the grandson of the renowned Sufi singer Bibi Nooran and son of Swarn Nooran, a Sufi singer from the 1970s. According to Mir, the family faced financial difficulties, and he had to give music lessons to support them. As a result, the sisters were unable to receive formal elementary education.

In 2014, Kunal Passi and Jyoti Nooran got married despite objections from Jyoti’s parents, who filed a court case alleging that she was underage at the time of marriage based on her matriculation certificate.
However, after going through legal proceedings, the family eventually agreed to accept the marriage. Passi now manages the performances of the couple. Meanwhile, Sultana, Jyoti’s sister and music partner, is also married and has a son.
Career
The Nooran sisters gained prominence after they participated in the MTV India talent show, MTV Sound Trippin, in 2012, where they performed their song “Tung Tung”. They were recommended for the competition by the noted Bollywood music composer-director Sneha Khanwalkar.
Following their breakthrough, their song “Tung Tung” was featured as a soundtrack in Akshay Kumar’s 2015 movie “Singh is Bling”. In the same year, they also delivered a stirring performance of the song “Allah Hoo” on MTV Unplugged and Coke Studio @ MTV Season 2, which quickly became a viral hit on YouTube.
On September 2, 2015, the Nooran sisters released their debut album titled “Yaar Gariban Da” which comprised five tracks and was produced by MS Records. In 2017, they were awarded the Best Playback Singer (Female) at the Filmfare Awards Punjabi for their rendition of the song “Yaar Di Gali” in the film “Channo Kamli Yaar Di”.
Additionally, their song “Baajre Di Raakhi” in the film “Krazzy Tabbar” earned them a nomination for the Best Playback Singer (Female) category at the 2018 Filmfare Awards Punjabi.
