Early Age and Education

At the age of three, Kunal Nayyar’s family returned to India, where he spent his formative years growing up in New Delhi, and his parents continue to reside there. In pursuit of a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance, Nayyar made a significant move in 1999, relocating to the United States to attend the University of Portland in Oregon. During his time pursuing this degree, he discovered his passion for acting, delving into acting classes and actively participating in various school productions. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Portland, Nayyar continued his educational journey. He enrolled in acting courses at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ultimately achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting.

Career

Following his academic achievements, Kunal Nayyar ventured into the world of entertainment. He initially found employment by featuring in American television advertisements and also graced the London stage with his acting talents. However, it was his role in Rajiv Joseph’s 2006 play titled “Huck & Holden” that brought him recognition in the United States. In this play, he portrayed an Indian exchange student with a keen desire to explore American society before returning home. In collaboration with Arun Das; Nayyar co-authored the play “Cotton Candy” in 2006, which premiered in New Delhi to positive reviews.

2011s

In 2011, he and his co-star Simon Helberg co-hosted the Tribute to Nerds show as part of the comedy festival Just for Laughs. In the animated film “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” released in 2012, Nayyar lent his voice to the character Gupta. During the same year, he wrapped up filming for “Dr. Cabbie,” a movie produced by Bollywood actor Salman Khan. From May 5 to June 29, 2015; Nayyar took part in the off-Broadway production “The Spoils,” a play written by and starring actor Jesse Eisenberg. In this play, Nayyar portrayed Kalyan, a Nepalese student and the roommate of the protagonist, Ben, played by Eisenberg. The production later moved to London’s West End in 2016.

2016s

In the DreamWorks production “Trolls,” which premiered in November 2016, Kunal Nayyar lent his voice to the animated character known as Guy Diamond. In 2020, Nayyar took on the role of Sandeep, a convicted serial killer, in the Netflix UK series “Criminal: UK.” He made his appearance in the Season 2 finale, which aired in August 2020. During the same year, Nayyar joined the cast of the thriller TV series “Suspicion” on Apple TV+. This series is based on the Israeli thriller TV series “False Flag” and features prominent actors like Uma Thurman, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Elyes Gabel.
