The inception of the film took place in 2019, and the highly anticipated title “Liger” was officially announced in January 2021. This momentous project marks the Hindi cinema debut of Vijay Deverakonda and the Telugu cinema debut of Ananya Panday, showcasing their versatility and expanding their horizons as actors.

Plot

Following the tragic demise of his father, Lion Balram Agarwal, Sashwath Agarwal, widely known as Liger, embarks on a new chapter in his life alongside his resilient mother, Balamani. Together, they relocate from Karimnagar to the vibrant city of Mumbai. Fueled by her unwavering determination, Balamani envisions a future where Liger rises to become a celebrated MMA champion.

Their journey leads them to the doorsteps of Christopher, a seasoned coach who takes Liger under his wing and imparts invaluable training. As Liger’s skills in the world of mixed martial arts reach new heights, his path crosses with that of Tanya, a young woman from a privileged background. The two souls are drawn to one another, and love blossoms amid their shared passion for life.

Production

Pre-production

Vijay Deverakonda, portraying the MMA Fighter with a stutter, underwent a remarkable physical makeover and traveled to Thailand to undergo martial arts training for his role. Initially, Janhvi Kapoor declined the offer due to scheduling conflicts, leading to Ananya Panday being cast opposite Deverakonda. The film’s musical score is being composed by Mani Sharma, with Tanishk Bagchi also signed on as a composer.

Soundtrack

The music rights for the film were acquired by Sony Music India. To celebrate Vijay Deverakonda’s birthday, the first single titled “The Liger Hunt Theme” was released on 9th May 2022. Subsequently, the second single titled “Akdi Pakdi” was released on 11th July 2022, followed by the third single titled “What Laga Denge,” sung by Vijay Deverakonda, on 29th July 2022.

Theatrical

“Liger” had its theatrical release on 25th August 2022 in Hindi and Telugu languages, as well as dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Initially, the film was slated to release on 9th September 2021, as announced in January 2021. However, due to production challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was postponed. The current release date was officially announced in December 2021.
