During the filming of ‘Bahut Din Huwe’ in 1954, Madhubala received a diagnosis of a ventricular septal defect, which significantly impacted her health as the years went by. It was during this period that Kishore Kumar, defying his family’s objections, proposed to her. Understanding that Dilip Kumar would not marry her, Madhubala decided to marry Kishore Kumar and they tied the knot.

Personal Life
Madhubala, hailing from an orthodox family, held deeply religious beliefs and had been practicing Islam since her childhood. In the late 1940s, after achieving financial stability for her family, she decided to rent a bungalow on Peddar Road in Bombay. This bungalow, known as “Arabian Villa,” became her permanent residence until her untimely demise. It served as a cherished abode where she found solace and comfort throughout her life.
Producer Career
In 1955, Madhubala ventured into film production and established herself as a producer with the movie ‘Naata.’ She further demonstrated her skills as a producer by taking on projects like ‘Mehlon Ke Khwab’ (1960) and ‘Pathan’ (1962), which were produced under her own production house, ‘Madhubala Private Ltd. This production house was co-founded by Madhubala in 1953.
Acting Career
During the summer of 1941, Khan, Madhubala, and their family members moved to Bombay and took up residence in a cowshed located in the Malad suburbs. After receiving approval from the studio executives, Chunnilal, a talent manager, secured a juvenile role for Madhubala in the film “Basant” (1942), produced by Bombay Talkies. She was offered a salary of ₹150 for her role. “Basant” was released in July 1942.

Death
During a regular checkup, it was revealed that Madhubala had a cardiac defect—a hole in her heart. The news of her condition was kept confidential within the film industry. Unfortunately, the medical professionals declined to perform surgery due to the extremely slim chances of her survival. They solemnly stated that even if the operation were to succeed, her life expectancy would not surpass a year.
