Majili, which translates to “A part of a journey,” is a romantic sports drama film in the Telugu language, released in 2019. Directed by Shiva Nirvana and produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under the Shine Screens Production banner, the movie features Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Naga Chaitanya, and Divyansha Kaushik in the lead roles. Supporting roles are portrayed by Subbaraju, Rao Ramesh, and Atul Kulkarni.

This film is the fourth collaboration between Chaitanya and Samantha, following their work in Ye Maaya Chesave, Manam, and Autonagar Surya. Majili was released on April 5, 2019, receiving generally positive reviews from both audiences and critics. It was later remade in Marathi as Ved in 2022.

Plot

In Vizag, Poorna Chandar Rao resides with his father, Rama Chandar Rao, and nurtures a deep desire to play cricket for the Indian national team. His initial goal is to secure a spot on the local railway team. While striving to gather funds for his cricketing aspirations, he encounters Anshu. Due to a series of misunderstandings, their relationship starts off on shaky ground but gradually blossoms into love.

Unfortunately, their union is disrupted by Anshu’s parents and the challenging circumstances that befall them. Anshu, who promises to return to Poorna, fails to keep her word, leaving him heartbroken.

Devastated, Poorna sinks into a state of depression, seeking solace in alcohol and abandoning his cricketing ambitions. However, amidst his despair, he realizes the depth of Sravani’s love for him. Determined to leave his past behind and embark on a fresh beginning, Poorna decides to embrace Sravani’s affection. Sadly, Sravani misinterprets his actions as mere pretense and resolves to transfer to Bhubaneswar for work, leaving Poorna behind.

As Poorna accompanies Sravani to the railway station, intending to confess his true feelings, she reveals her plan to depart. At that moment, Poorna musters the courage to declare his love for her, desperately hoping she’ll stay. Touched by his sincerity, Sravani decides to remain by his side, and they embrace, marking the culmination of Poorna’s journey (Majili) toward love.

The second schedule of the film was filmed in Vizag, specifically at the Simhachalam railway station. During this schedule, Samantha portrayed the role of a booking clerk. The shooting for the movie concluded on February 21, 2019. Subsequently, the dubbing work and post-production processes were finalized by March 16, 2019.

Soundtrack

The music for the film was composed by Gopi Sundar, while the background score was crafted by S. Thaman. The soundtrack of the movie was released under the Aditya Music label.

Release

The movie was released on April 5, 2019, as a special Ugadi release. Moonshine Cinemas, an overseas distribution company, premiered the film in the USA on April 4, prior to its release in India.
