She was born on November 8, 1970, and is renowned for her dual roles as a film producer and actress. Manjula comes from a family with a prominent background in the Telugu film industry, with her father being the famous Telugu actor Krishna.

Manjula’s career in acting started in 1999 when she appeared in a cameo role in the movie Rajasthan. Following that, she played a supporting role in the Malayalam film Summer in Bethlehem. Tragically, Krishna passed away on November 15, 2022.

Manjula Swarup is the second of five siblings, with two elder brothers, one of whom was the late actor Ramesh Babu, who passed away on January 8, 2022. Her younger brother, Mahesh Babu, is a well-known actor in the South Indian film industry.

Personal Life

Manjula is the third child and second daughter of veteran actor Krishna and his first wife, Indira Devi. She has two brothers and two sisters. Her elder brother, Ramesh Babu, is also a film producer, while her younger brother, Mahesh Babu, is a popular Telugu actor.

Manjula is married to actor and producer Sanjay Swarup, and they have a daughter named Jaanvi. She is well-known for her close friendship with her sister-in-law, Namrata Shirodkar. In addition to her career in film, Manjula has been practicing meditation for over 20 years.

Career

Initially, Manjula was slated to make her acting debut in a film alongside actor M. N. Nambiar’s grandson, Deepak, but the project never materialized. She eventually entered the film industry with a brief appearance as a terrorist in R. K. Selvamani’s Rajasthan.

In 1998, she also played one of the female leads in the Malayalam movie Summer in Bethlehem, alongside Suresh Gopi and Jayaram. However, when she first began acting, she faced opposition from her father’s fans who did not approve of her pursuing a career in acting.

Manjula’s second production project was Naani (2004), directed by S. J. Suryah, which starred her brother, the actor Mahesh Babu. Unfortunately, the movie did not perform well at the box office. However, in 2006, she co-produced her third film, Pokiri, which was an action-packed blockbuster directed by Puri Jagannadh.
