Matthew Scott Wade (born 26 December 1987) is an Australian cricketer. He has played for his Australian nation as a batsman and wicketkeeper in three different types of international cricket. He is a member of the domestic cricket team with Australia’s Tasmanian cricket team.

Personal Life

Wade was born in Hobart on the 26th of December, 1987. The father is Scott Wade, an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL) as well as in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL), and for Clarence as well as Hobart within Hobart in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL) and also served a lengthy term as the director for AFL Tasmania.

Wade was a player for Tasmania in junior cricket as well as junior football. Wade was a part of one List A match for the Tasmania Tigers during his 2006-07 Ford Ranger One Day Cup season. This was his sole game in the state of Tasmania in any way of the game during his debut season playing for the state team. The chances of him being selected as the wicketkeeper for the state of his birth were limited because of the presence of Tim Paine.

At the time, Wade was thought to be the potential replacement for Brad Haddin as wicketkeeper in the Australian national team. Instead of trying to become an expert batsman Wade relocated to Victoria during the 2007/08 season, and in two years he had established himself as the first choice of the state’s wicketkeeper, ahead of the incumbent Adam Crosthwaite.

International Career

After his successes in the local limited-overs cricket, Wade was called up to the Australian team for the first time in October of 2011 to play a Twenty20 International against South Africa. He achieved his debut on the international stage as a T20I cricketer against India in Sydney by opening the batting with 72 runs in 43 balls. He was awarded an award for the “Man of the match award.

He has scored four-century runs (100 plus runs within one inning) in Test matches and one at One Day International (ODI) matches. Wade played his first Test match in the match against West Indies at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in April 2012.

His highest score in a Test of 117 was recorded in the match against England on The Oval, Kennington in September of 2019. Wade made his debut as an ODI player in February 2012, playing India at The Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. The highest number of scores, which was 100* was in a match against Pakistan on the field at The Gabba, Brisbane in January of 2017. He hasn’t scored a 100 during Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

He stated, “That’ll be my next motivation – hopefully get to that World Cup, defend the title, and then I can sail off into the sunset. I certainly won’t be playing (international cricket) beyond that point. That would be my goal from here.”
