Plot

At the heart of the film “Mere Pyare Prime Minister” lies the compelling story of Kannu, an eight-year-old boy residing in a slum community. Fueled by his desire to improve the living conditions for his mother, Sargam, Kannu is deeply affected when she falls victim to a traumatic incident while venturing out at night to defecate in the open.

Driven by a newfound sense of responsibility, Kannu takes it upon himself to bring about positive change in the slum. His ambitious mission centers around constructing a toilet facility, a symbol of dignity and basic hygiene, for his beloved mother. Determined to make his voice heard, Kannu pens a heartfelt letter to the Prime Minister, outlining the dire situation faced by his community.

Development

Renowned director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, known for his exceptional storytelling centered around the city of Delhi, took a departure from his usual milieu with the film “Mere Pyare Prime Minister.” This time, he chose to explore the lives of people living in the slums of Mumbai, shifting his focus to a different geographical and social setting.

Casting

Anjali Patil, a recipient of the prestigious National Award, was chosen to portray the role of the child protagonist’s mother in the film. Additionally, three talented kids from the slums were selected to portray the role of his friends, adding an authentic touch to the storytelling.
