Mohinder Amarnath was born on September 24, 1950, in Patiala as the second eldest son of Lala Amarnath and Kailash Kumari. His elder brother, Surinder, enjoyed a career as an international cricketer, while his younger brother, Rajinder, played as a former first-class cricketer. Additionally, Mohinder has two sisters named Kamala and Dolly.

Career

Mohinder Amarnath made his debut as a quick-bowling all-rounder against Australia in Chennai in December 1969. However, he reached his peak as a top-order batsman, primarily occupying the No. 3 position for the Indian team. Known for his adeptness with the ball, Mohinder showcased exceptional skill and control in delivering swingers and cutters.

He played 69 Tests scoring 4,378 runs at a batting average of 42.50, with 11 hundreds and 24 fifties, and claimed 32 wickets at a bowling average of 55.68 apiece. In 85 One Day Internationals, he scored 1,924 runs at an average of 30.53 and a highest score of 102 n.o. and claimed 46 wickets at 42.84 apiece.

He played his last Test match for India in 1988 against West Indies in Chennai. He played his last ODI for India against the same opposition at Mumbai next year.
