Early Life

She was born on November 3, 1985, in Kolkata, India into a Bengali family. Her parents are the famous Bengali artist Shakti Thakur. She also has an older sister, also a performer under the name, Mehuli Thakur.

Monali is a graduate of St. Xavier’s College in English from Kolkata. Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Pandit Jagdish Prasad taught Monali to dance in Hindustani Classical Music. Thakur studied hip-hop along with Bharatanatyam in addition to being a certified salsa dancer.

Monali was not a solitary student at the school. She attended an exclusive institution in Kolkata. Monali had a clear idea that she wanted to be an artist, however, she pursued her education. She graduated with English Honors from St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata.
