Neena Gupta, an Indian actress and television director, was born on 4 June 1959. She has won several awards, including two National Film Awards (three Filmfare Awards, and two Screen Awards). She is well-known for her work in an art-house and commercial film.
In 1994, she was nominated for the National Film Award as Best Supporting Actress as a young widow in Woh Chokri (1994). She saw a career revival in 2018 when she starred as a middle-aged pregnant lady in the comedy-drama Badhaai Ho. For this, she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and won the Filmfare Award (Critics).
Early Life
Neena Gupta is from Bengal. She was born in Kolkata. Her father is from the Baniya Community, and her mother is from Punjab. She is therefore a mixture of Baniya and Punjabi communities. She was born in Kolkata and raised in Delhi, in the Karol Bagh area. Neena Gupta, the oldest of the four sisters, is the youngest. Her father was a second husband and had two children. She had four siblings as a result.

Neena Gupta attended Bal Bharti School for her pre-schooling, and Vidya Bhavan for her schooling until the 12th grade. For her bachelor’s degree, she chose Arts. She did it in Janki Devi Mahavidyalaya and then went to Delhi University for her master’s. She chose Sanskrit for her master’s.
Her mother holds a master’s in Sanskrit. After deciding to complete her thesis, she received her MPhil at Delhi University. Her idea was entitled “Stage Techniques In Sanskrit Drama”. This explains her interest in Cinema. Her choice was related to Cinema and stage performance.
Personal Life
Gupta wed Amlan Kusum Ghose while still an undergraduate at IIT Delhi. Both parties decided to end their marriage within one year. Pandit Jasraj’s son, Shaarangdev was briefly her engagement. In the late 1980s, she was in a relationship with Vivian Richards, a former West Indies cricketer.
Although they were never married, Masaba Gupta was born to them in 1989. Gupta, already married to Richards, decided to raise Masaba as a single mom. Gupta was married to Vivek Mehra, a New Delhi-based chartered accountant, in a private ceremony in the United States in 2008.

Film Career
In 1982, Neena Gupta was featured in six films. Raman Kumar directed her first film, ‘Saath Saath. Farooq Shaikh & Deepti Naval played the lead roles. According to some reports, she was paid ten thousand rupees in 1982 for her film titled ‘Gandhi. She is multilingual and acted in Malayalam films in 1991 (Vasthuhara) and 1992 (Aham).

Television
Neena Gupta began her television career in 1985 with the serial “Khandaan”. From 1985 to 1987, she has been a part of three consecutive serials. She then did Shyam Benegal’s Bharat Khoj serial and then a Dard serial in 1994. Gupta also hosted the popular remake series ‘The Weakest Link. Gupta gained fame for her role in ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. Some of her serials were successful. She directed ‘Saans’, ‘Siski’, ‘Kyun Hai Pyar.’
