Nirmala Sitharaman, born into a Tamil Iyengar family in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, is the daughter of Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman. Her early education began at Sacred Heart Convent Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Villupuram, and she later attended schools in Madras and Tiruchirappalli.

Initially, she worked as a salesperson at a store on Regent Street that specialized in home decor products. Subsequently, she joined the London Agricultural Engineers Association, where she served as an assistant to an economist, further expanding her knowledge and skills in the field.

Political Career

She came into politics in 2006 when she joined Bharatiya Janata Party. She became a Rajya Sabha member in 2010. In 2014, she became a Junior Minister in Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. In 2017 she was appointed as the Miniter of Defence and later firmly headed the critical Balakot Air Strike carried out by the Indian Air Force.
