Born to film critic parents, Satinath Chatterjee and Sunetra Ghatak, Parambrata is the grandson of Ashish Chandra Ghatak and the nephew of filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. Despite facing criticism for his secular views, he remains connected to Bengali activist Mahasweta Devi, his aunt. Parambrata has been in a relationship with Ike Schouten, a Dutch doctor, for nearly a decade.

Education

Educationally, Parambrata attended Dolna Day School, Assembly of God School, and Patha Bhavan in Kolkata for schooling, and later pursued a BA and MA in English Literature at Jadavpur University. He further obtained a Master’s degree in Film and Television Production from Bristol University, Bristol, UK. On November 27, 2023, Parambrata married Piya Chakraborty in a private ceremony.

Career

His acting journey began in 2003 with the Bengali film “Hemanter Pakhi.” Apart from acting in numerous television series, telefilms, short films, and movies, Parambrata Chatterjee made his directorial debut with “Jiyo Kaka” (2011). He received acclaim for his roles in films like “Baishe Srabon” (2011), “Kahaani” (2012), “Apur Panchali” (2014), and “Belaseshe” (2015). Additionally, he directed “Hawa Bodol” (2013). Beyond films, Parambrata has ventured into web series, including “Feluda Pherot” (2020), “The Final Call” (2019), and “Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy” (2020). Active in campaigns against child labor, he serves as the brand ambassador for the NGO CRY (Child Rights and You). In 2011, he co-founded the production house Workshop Productions Pvt. Ltd with colleague Rudranil Ghosh.

Controversy

Parambrata found himself embroiled in controversy during a reality show episode hosted by Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee. Accusations surfaced regarding his involvement with a girl, leading to a defamation case filed against him and actor Rudranil Ghosh. The incident was widely regarded as a potential publicity stunt by the media. In another controversy related to the movie “Abhijaan,” actress Poulami Bose accused Parambrata of misrepresenting events and exploiting her son’s accident for the film, a claim Parambrata denied.
