Pathu Thala, a highly anticipated Indian Tamil-language film, hit theaters on March 30th, 2023. Directed by Obeli N. Krishna, the neo-noir action thriller is a remake of the 2017 Kannada film Mufti. Plot

Meanwhile, Shaktivel, an undercover police officer, is assigned to gather evidence against AGR and his criminal empire. He is working undercover for Bhai in Vishakapatnam under the name Guna. One day, Bhai orders Guna to start working for AGR. Guna is introduced to Selvin, who is one of AGR’s most trusted henchmen.

During his time with AGR, Guna rekindles his relationship with his ex-girlfriend Leela Thompson, who is a Tahsildar trying to stop AGR’s illegal activities. Guna slowly gains the trust of Singa, AGR’s right-hand man, after he manages to retrieve a staggering amount of ₹400 crores from a goods train, despite the best efforts of the vigilant security team.

Finally, Guna is able to meet AGR himself, and he saves the crime boss from an assassination attempt that was orchestrated by Naanjilar Gunasekaran, who is both AGR’s political rival and the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Throughout the story, there are various twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats, as the characters navigate through the dangerous and unpredictable world of crime and politics.

Production

The film Pathu Thala was initially launched in June 2019 with Narthan as the director, and it was announced that Silambarasan and Gautham Karthik would be starring in the film. However, after a delay in shooting due to Silambarasan’s absence, media outlets started reporting that the film was dropped in October 2019.

Narthan later opted out of the project, and Obeli N Krishna, who had previously directed films like Sillunu Oru Kaadhal and Nedunchaalai, was brought on board as the new director. Under Krishna’s direction, the film’s writing was reworked to include more characters and a modified storyline.

Music

R. Rahman, who previously collaborated with the director on Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, composed the music for the film. This marks his fifth film featuring actor Silambarasan, who also appeared in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010).

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016), Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018), and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (2022). The first single, “Namma Satham,” was released on Silambarasan’s birthday, February 3rd, 2023. The second single, “Ninaivirukka,” was released on March 13th, 2023.

The film was initially slated for a theatrical release on December 14th, 2022, but the release date was later pushed back. The film was eventually released in theaters on March 30th, 2023.

Amazon Prime Video and ZEE Tamil acquired the post-theatrical streaming and satellite rights of the film. The movie then premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 27th, 2023.
