Pema Khandu began his political career by contesting and winning the Mukto constituency seat in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections in 2011, representing the Indian National Congress party. Following his father’s tragic demise in a helicopter crash, Pema Khandu switched allegiance to the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and subsequently to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He played a pivotal role in the political landscape, eventually becoming the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh in July 2016.
