At the age of 11, Pranjali Awasthi’s family relocated to Miami, Florida, and she began attending Doral Academy Charter High School. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, her education transitioned into the virtual realm. It was during this period that she delved into computer classes and math competitions, excelling and even securing some awards. This success paved the way for Pranjali to embark on a 20-hour-a-week internship journey. Remarkably, at the tender age of 13, she commenced internships at university research labs, specifically at Florida International University.

At the age of thirteen, Awasthi received an internship offer from the research lab at Florida International University. Her goal is to continue developing Delv AI into the premier data extraction tool worldwide. While participating in her internship, Pranjali simultaneously attended a virtual high school and engaged in machine learning projects. She is determined to inspire more girls to pursue their STEM aspirations. Upon completing her internship, Pranjali joined an AI startup accelerator in Miami led by Lucy Guo and Dave Fontent of Backened Capital. She firmly believes that age should not be a barrier to generating innovative ideas and launching one’s own ventures.

Growth Journey of Delv AI

Pranjali Awasthi’s entrepreneurial journey took a significant leap when she became part of a highly competitive AI startup program in Miami. This accelerator not only offered her invaluable mentorship and guidance but also facilitated crucial connections for scaling her business. Moreover, she secured substantial funding from prominent investors such as On Deck and Village Global, totaling $450,000. With this financial backing, Pranjali expanded her team, recruiting 10 professionals with specialized skills in AI, engineering, design, marketing, and business development.

Additionally, she joined forces with Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing science- and tech-based startups. This partnership provided her with access to a network of world-class mentors, investors, scientists, and fellow entrepreneurs, who played a pivotal role in refining her product and strategic approach. Since its inception, Delv AI has experienced impressive growth, thanks in part to the support and resources provided by CDL.

How It All Started

Pranjali’s passion for technology was ignited by her father, an engineer deeply dedicated to teaching computer science. Her curiosity extended to machine learning and artificial intelligence, leading to a remarkable internship at Florida International University’s lab when she was just 13. Her experience also introduced her to OpenAI’s ChatGPT-3, a powerful tool capable of generating text based on user input. This encounter served as a catalyst for her to conceive Delv.AI, a platform harnessing AI to extract and condense pertinent information from online sources for researchers.

What is Delv AI?

Pranjali Awasthi drew her motivation for creating Delv AI from her own background as a researcher. Recognizing a market void for a proficient and precise data extraction tool to assist researchers in pinpointing specific information amidst the vast online data pool, she established the company in January 2022. Currently, there are ten individuals employed at Delv AI. Pranjali observed a notable absence of effective tools for extracting targeted information from the expansive realm of the internet.

Emphasizing the primary goal of Delv AI, Pranjali aims to facilitate academics in swiftly and effortlessly locating pertinent information within the extensive landscape of web content. Her work on Delv AI commenced in 2021, with the foundational use of OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model. The platform dismantles barriers and elevates data extraction techniques through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

She designed a web-based platform that permits users to either upload or paste text from sources like research papers, news articles, or web pages. Subsequently, they can pose questions or request summaries from the provided text. This vision materialized into an intelligent AI solution engineered to expedite tasks and economize time and resources for researchers. The platform then employs natural language processing and machine learning to generate responses or summaries in natural language, complemented by pertinent graphs and charts.
