Plot

Set in Fatehpur, Gujarat, Raees tells the story of a sharp-minded young man named Raees who becomes embroiled in the illegal liquor trade within the confines of a dry state. From an early age, Raees embraces his mother’s philosophy, which asserts that no occupation is beneath the dignity and that no religion should be considered superior to any profession. This belief serves as a shield of self-deception as he navigates his morally ambiguous path.

With his loyal companion Sadiq by his side, Raees enters the employ of a local gangster named Jairaj, who quickly recognizes his potential and values his innovative ideas for smuggling liquor. As Raees gains power and influence, he decides to break away from Jairaj and forge his path to success. To achieve this, he seeks the assistance of a formidable crime boss named Musabhai.

Principal photography for the film commenced in April 2015, with Mumbai serving as one of the primary shooting locations. To authentically depict the Ahmedabad slums, the sets were meticulously redesigned. Release

Originally slated for release on Eid, July 6, 2016, the film’s release date was rescheduled to avoid box office competition with the highly anticipated Salman Khan starrer, Sultan. The filmmakers made a strategic decision to shift the release date to maximize the film’s potential success.
