Rahmanullah Gurbaz (born 28 November 2001) is an Afghan cricketer. He made his debut international with Afghanistan in September of this year. His parents are both members of the Gurbaz tribe of Afghanistan. He was the first batsman from Afghanistan to hit 100 runs on debut in a One Day International (ODI) match.

The wicketkeeper-batsman of the young age of Afghanistan Rahmanullah Gurbaz was born and was raised in Knots, Afghanistan. With his strong and determined attitude as he starts the innings, it appears that he is the ideal replacement for long-time veteran Mohammad Shahzad.

He was in the spotlight after he finished in the year 2018 ACC Asian Cup for Under-19s as the top run scorer for the Afghanistan team with 117 runs over four games which earned him a place in the senior team. He made his debut as an ODI player against Ireland where he managed to run a ball for 127 runs.

Early Life

Rahamanullah was born in Afghanistan in a humble middle-class family that had no sporting background. He was born into a well-educated family and was the head of a local school. Gurbaz was a keen cricket fan who was keen to play the game on a regular basis.

Without any family support to play his passion, the player took on work on a construction site in order to cover the costs of cricket equipment. The elders of his village were impressed by his performance and suggested he train for the game at a local club.

Gurbaz completed his List A debut for Afghanistan A against Zimbabwe A on their trip to Zimbabwe on January 27, 2017. The player was able to make his Twenty20 debut for Miss Adina Knights in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League on 12 September 2017. He made his debut as a first-class player with Miss Adina Region in the 2018 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day tournament on March 1, 2018.

In December of 2018, the team was named Afghanistan’s under-23 squad for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

Gurbaz was named in Afghanistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2019-20 Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series. Gurbaz first made his T20I debut with Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on the 14th of September 2019.
