In 1977, he was elected as the General Secretary of the Delhi University Students Union. In 1997, he tied the knot with Ritu Dhawan.

Career

Upon completing his Master’s degree in Commerce, Rajat Sharma began his career as a researcher for Janardan Thakur, a journalist who had just left Ananda Bazar Patrika to start a new syndicate column. He later joined Onlooker Magazine as a trainee and was eventually promoted to editor in 1985 after working there for some time. He then relocated to Mumbai and became an editor at Sunday Observer before moving on to The Daily in the same capacity.

In 1992, while on a flight to Delhi, Rajat Sharma met Subhash Chandra, the founder of Zee TV, and during a casual conversation, the idea for “Aap Ki Adalat” was born. The first episode of the show was filmed for Zee TV in 1993, featuring Lalu Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Bihar.
