She was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, to a Maratha Maratha family. Father was Lieutenant CDR Vijay Kumar Shahane, an Indian Navy officer. Her mother, Shanta Gokhle, was well-known at the Maratha Theatre. Her parents divorced in childhood and her mother married Arun Khopkar, a filmmaker for the second time.

Unfortunately, her mother divorced him too and became engaged to Jolly Pinto who was a filmmaker and journalist. Renuka was the sister of Girish Shahane, a contemporary writer. She graduated in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. Renuka Shahane then went on to complete her post-graduation at Mumbai University in Clinic Psychology. She has always had a dream to be an actor since childhood.

She graduated in Clinical Psychology from Mumbai University after completing her Arts (Psychology) degree at Street Xavier’s College.

Personal Life

Renuka has been married twice. She was married to Vijay Kenkare in her first marriage. He is a Marathi theatre director and writer. However, the marriage didn’t last long and they divorced soon after. After that, she married Ashutosh Rana (originally Ashutosh Neekhra), a Bollywood actor. They had two sons: Satyendra Neekhra (Shauyaman Neekhra) and Satyendra Neekhra.

Career

Renuka Shahane was educated at the renowned Mithibai College in Mumbai. In 1992, she began her career in Marathi cinema Hun Hunshi Hunshilal. After her performance in the iconic Bollywood film Hum Aapke Hain Koun, she rose to fame. 1994. She was then featured in Masoom, a hit movie. Although her Hindi film career didn’t last very long, she did appear in several Marathi films.
